Artificial Intelligence Policy

Writing

All the writing on this site was created by a human.

AI was not used to generate ideas.

AI was not used to write text.

AI was not used for copyediting.

The writing is 100% human crafted and always will be.

(But the site owner likes to use em dashes and semi-colons, so you’ll have to deal with that. She will not abandon her beloved punctuation marks! She will not let AI win!)

Images

The images on this site were either taken by the human site owner, purchased from a stock photography site before AI generated images were a general concern, or downloaded from the Creative Commons licensed images on Flickr or another royalty-free site before AI generated images were a general concern. The site owner is strongly against AI generated images and will make every effort not to post any on her site.

The site owner is not against using AI on human-made images to correct color, sharpen focus, or make other minor enhancements as long as it is disclosed that AI was used to do these things and the original creator of the image has indicated that these type of modifications are allowed. If anyone sees an image on this site that they think was generated by AI, please contact the site owner.

The “Not by AI” badges on this site are from https://notbyai.fyi/. (I don’t know much about Not By AI and what their goals are, but the badges seem like a good idea.)

Code

All the HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, and other code used in the child theme for this site was created by a human. As far as the site owner knows, the Genesis parent theme was coded by humans as well. The site runs on WordPress and the site owner cannot control whether the developers overseeing that project use AI generated code.

The site owner is not against using AI to generate computer code because it is her understanding that the LLMs are trained mostly on code from Stack Overflow, GitHub, and other public code repositories which are dedicated to sharing code with people for free. If it is revealed in the future that LLMs were trained on proprietary code, the site owner will review her position.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

The site owner does not use AI to generate SEO terms because she’s always hated SEO and she’s certain she’s going to hate Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) just as much—if not more. (See! I love a good em dash for emphasis!)

General Usage

The site owner believes that the best course forward for humanity is a human web made primarily by humans. She does not want the web to become a bunch of LLMs talking to each other and regurgitating content like a dog that keeps eating its own vomit. She hopes the web does not become a bunch of databases that AI talks to directly instead of generating viewable pages for humans, but I guess we’ll see!

The site owner also understands that AI is a tool and tools are not inherently good or evil. She is not against using AI in ethical ways that do not violate the consent of the creators who made the material the AI is trained on. She is also concerned about the environmental impact of AI and believes AI should not be used for tasks that can be performed in relatively the same amount of time via a method that requires less electricity. (Please take a car to the grocery store, not a helicopter.)

The site owner believes that AI usage should be disclosed. If anything on this site is touched by AI, it will be noted in this policy or at the point of usage.

The site owner also understands that AI is evolving rapidly and her AI policy might need further refinement in the future. If so, any changes will be noted in this policy.

This artificial intelligence (AI) policy was last revised on August 23, 2025.
