Earlier today a reader named Carol emailed me to let me know she’d “gotten an eyeful from an Adult Friend Finder ad” when she tried visiting jenful.com both yesterday and today. Then Donna on Facebook told me her virus software wasn’t letting her visit my latest post. If anyone else is seeing naked ladies when they’re trying to visit my blog, please leave a comment on this post or email me directly at jenful at jenful dot com. I am the only lady on this blog and you will never, ever see me naked.
In a bit of good timing, this problem appeared on the same day I was moving jenful.com to a new domain and a new hosting service. (More on that in my next post.) I created a new installation of WordPress on the new domain and imported my old content through the XML import tool. I did fresh installations of all my plugins and the theme itself is new. Despite all that, when I was testing the new site on my phone, I too got an unexpected lesson in anatomy. Because this happened on a fresh installation of WordPress, I have to think the problem is with one of the third-party javascripts I use, just like the problem I had with SiteMeter last year.
The thing is, I only use a handful of external javascripts, and the only one I was using on both the new site and the old one was AddThis. So, I’m 75% certain that was the source of the problem. I’ve removed AddThis from my site. However, if you get hit with an ad like that when visiting the new jennettefulda.com, then the source of the problem must be something else. Let me know if you do. Otherwise, I hope our shared naked nightmare is over.
